You may not realize it, but you probably have over $50,000 sitting around your house, just waiting to be spent. Just think about it, what could you do with an unexpected $50,000? Buy a car? Take a cruise to Hawaii? (It's very nice, trust me I've been.) Why not take a year and go out to dinner at the best restaurants in town every single night! Sounds good? Well, now all you need to do is collect the cash.
Don't look too hard, the money is sitting right in your closet. Think about all your old clothes. You know, the ones you were about to give away or even throw in the garbage. Not only are they worth cash, but since most people do not realize their value, you can probably take all your neighbors' old clothes. They might think you are doing them a favor by taking the stuff, but in reality they are helping you get rich!
So collect all the old clothes in your house and anything the neighbors will give you. That should take no more than half an hour. The next step is to print brochures for your clothing sale. Keep in mind, you are not hosting a "weekend yard sale." You are about to run a "limited time trunk sale." Your success or failure is all about marketing. Depending on how you market your wares can be the difference between making $20 and earning a year-long salary in just twenty-four hours.
Use phrases like "pre-faded" and "gently broken-in" rather than "old" or "used." While many people will drive right by signs advertising "old clothes yard sale," they will come flocking to visit the "limited time engagement display of custom worn clothing (some items for sale)." The more exclusive the event sounds, the more people who will come.
Once you have the brochures (and a nice webpage wouldn't hurt either), rent a room in an exclusive hotel. Purchase some shipping crates and put all your old clothes in them, with a few nice shirts draped over the front. The message you want to send is that these are more than used clothes, these are worldly clothes.
Once you have your marketing and advertising down, just sit back and wait for the big day. When the sale day comes, purchase some nice coffee and put it around the hotel room. Greet everyone who comes warmly. Don't look eager to sell. In fact, your first line should always be "these are not for sale" when someone asks the price. Make them plead with you to part with a few items, the price will be much higher.
You should only sell about half of your items. The rest go back in the shipping crates until next year's sale. Spend the rest of the year enjoying your new wealth.
