I laugh. I laugh a lot when I hear people complain that they don't have enough time to devote to their hobby because they are too busy working. What they don't realize is that millions of people have already turned their hobbies into their work. They now enjoy themselves and make money at the same time.
For example, I know a guy who is a freelance writer. He spends a lot of his time writing. He sits in front of his computer every day, trying to come up with intelligent things to say. Of course, he would much rather be riding his mountain bike. The guy is an accomplished bike rider. In his younger days, he traveled all around the country to bike races. He won quite a few of them back then. Now, he may be too old to race, but he would much rather be riding than sitting in front of a computer.
What he does not realize is that he could give up the writing and make money instead by riding his bike. All he has to do is start a bike touring company. He can take people on great rides on trails that only he knows about. He doesn't realize it but people would be willing to spend good money to have someone who knows what they re doing take them on a bike tour. I myself just got back from a five day ride, and I know what a great feeling it is to have someone leading you who is a good rider and knows the area.
In fact, almost any hobby can be turned into a business. Love to cook? Start a cooking school. Like to sew? Sell custom clothing. Are you a great water skier? Then put on an exhibition and sell tickets. At the end of the day, you will enjoy yourself far more if what you do for fun, you also do for a living.
